2012 LMM – Thank You!

We did it! On behalf of our Lacrosse Mustache Madness team, we want to thank YOU, the lacrosse community, for rallying to raise a whopping $101,000 for the HEADstrong Foundation!!! This is truly a momentous occasion as it marks the first time that Lacrosse Mustache Madness has surpassed the $100,000 mark.

En route to raising a new fundraising total of $101K in 2012, Lacrosse Mustache Madness witnessed another record breaking moment as Matthew Walters managed to dethrone two-time Individual Fundraising Champion Ben Kaminow. Matthew raised an unbelievable $13,176 from 91 donors to capture our coveted Stache Crown! Matt and Ben combined to raise nearly $25,000 and captained Syracuse University to win their second straight Team Fundraising Championship with a grand total of $30,308. Huge props goes out to Matt, Ben, and the Syracuse University team. Thank you!

Lacrosse Mustache Madness also established itself internationally in 2012 as Uganda Lacrosse participated in this year’s competition. A big thanks to Kevin Dugan, Fields of Growth, and of course the Ugandan Lacrosse Team for their efforts and participation this fall. I can’t wait to see this team rock and roll at the World Championships in 2014!

A shout out HAS to be given to Sutherland Middle School for their school wide effort to raise funds for Lacrosse Mustache Madness. Using the popular game of “corn-hole” as the platform for their fundraising efforts, Sutherland’s woodworking classes constructed corn-hole sets, which after completion were passed along to the art classes for a colorful makeover. On November 30th, Sutherland Middle School held a school wide corn-hole competition as a means to generate funds. All in all, the “Sharks” managed to raise $1,650 for Lacrosse Mustache Madness despite the fact that none of these kids can grow a mustache!

Last, I would like to thank Warrior, Inside Lacrosse, Lacrosse.com, Lacrossewear, Mr. Sock Guy, Stylin Strings, and the rest of our sponsors for their steadfast support in 2012. Raising over $100,000 is absolutely a team effort, and we hope everyone takes as much pride in this accomplishment as we do.

Since LMM’s inaugural year in 2009, the lacrosse community has managed to raise over $300,000 for charitable organizations, the last three years of which have been donated towards the HEADstrong Foundation. The impact that Pat Collelouri and The HEADstrong Foundation has had on the sport of lacrosse, let alone Lacrosse Mustache Madness, is truly remarkable and an absolute inspiration to us all.

The lacrosse community is so unique and special in that the “Six Degrees of Separation” within the sport seems more like two or three. Rarely do I ever meet someone in the lacrosse community that is not a “friend of a friend”. I have been amazed at the efforts from lacrosse teams around the country supporting both Lacrosse Mustache Madness and those affected by Hurricane Sandy this fall. I believe these selfless actions truly embody the spirit of lacrosse and reflect the character of our sport.

I am so thankful for our lacrosse community and cannot wait to see what we can accomplish in 2013!

Thank you,

2012 Final Top 5 Mustaches

For the third and final time, Lacrosse Mustache Madness is proud to announce our Top 5 Mustaches of the Week!

1. “The Mossi and Koch preparing for the Turkey Day Mini Lax Battle”. Looks like the Dad in the middle has these kids on the right track. I particularly like the Dr. Evil fingerstache!

2. “Things to be thankful for – 1. Mustache growth”. These guys are giving a serious stache stare. I’m afraid to NOT reward this duo. Nice work!

3. “Matt Walters & Bama at Thanksgiving”. Ummm hello?! Matt Walters, our NEW Individual Fundraising Champion. That’s a $13,000 mustache!!! Unbelievable effort by Matt and his 91 donors!!!

4. “The Ron Jeremy”. Need I say more?

5. “Handlebar is coming in quite nicely” A SERIOUS Fu Manchu and the handlebar stache on the water bottle. Very cool. I like where your heads at!!

Congratulations to the final award winners for our Top 5 Mustaches of the Week! A big thanks to EVERYONE who has submitted pictures to our online Stache Gallery via our website. We have had a blast checking out your submitted stache photos and cannot thank you enough for your participation and support!

Lacrosse Mustache Madness: Thanksgiving Update

Thanksgiving is upon us, and I would like to begin by thanking YOU for participating in the 4th Annual Lacrosse Mustache Madness and joining our fight against blood cancers. We have raised over $60,000 in 2012 and are closing the gap on our $100,000 goal. To break it down for you, if each registered fundraiser can raise $100 between now and the end of the event, we will surpass our $100,000 goal!

With that being said, Thanksgiving is a perfect time for you to flash your righteous stache and SHOW your family how you are giving back this Thanksgiving. While you’re watching some football with the fam, pull up your Fundraising Page and have them throw a quick donation down. Hurry before the Tryptophan kicks in!

For the second time this campaign we are announcing the Top 5 Mustaches of the Week! Similar to the Thanksgiving gobstopper in Willy Wonka, these stunning staches will savor the flavor of your Thanksgiving feast well into the weekend.

  1. “Rabil on the roadshow flashing the stache with me”. Flashing the Stache with Paul Rabil?! You KNOW you’re getting selected with that pic! Rabil should probably start sporting that stache all of the time…
  2. “Better look at the arrows. Respect the Stache”. It took me a bit to see what was going on here. Then realized he has eye black arrows pointing to his stache striking fear into the opponent!
  3. “Come from behind win for the Cuse – perhaps the lucky stache?”. A priceless shot from the Mizzou vs Cuse football game this past weekend. Being a UVA fan, I will certainly give the credit to the stache!
  4. “Lounging around”. Channeling his inner Hugh Hefner…
  5. “Pat McGushin: Stony Brook USA”. Perhaps the most detailed and patriotic stache ever submitted during Lacrosse Mustache Madness. Perfect for Veterans Day, this stache is a must see!C
  6. Check out the Stache Gallery to view ALL of the great stache photos submitted this year and years past. Thank you to all of those who have submitted pics and please remember to list your name so we can give credit where credit is due!

Last, Syracuse Lacrosse is continuing to DOMINATE Lacrosse Mustache Madness in 2012 leading both the individual and team fundraising competitions. Team Syracuse Lacrosse has a $10,000 lead on second place team Harvard Lacrosse and has raised over $16,000 to date!!! Leading the charge for Syracuse is 2011’s Individual Fundraising Champion Ben Kaminow with over $6,500 raised, but close on his tail is Matthew Walters with over $5,800 raised to date. Great work fellas!!!

On behalf of our team at Lacrosse Mustache Madness, I would like to wish you all a very safe and happy Thanksgiving. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support.

Lacrosse Mustache Madness: Week 3 Update

I click “refresh” on the LMM website at least 25 times a day and am amazed to ALWAYS see the donation amount increase. We have raised over $35,000 in the first 3 weeks of the campaign! With over 375 individual fundraisers registered and 100+ different teams competing, Lacrosse Mustache Madness is charging towards our $100,000 goal.

Syracuse Lacrosse is destroying the competition with nearly a $6,000 lead on second place Hamilton Lacrosse. Syracuse ring leader Ben Kaminow is leading the way with over $5,000 contributed towards Syracuse’s $8,000 plus total. FYI, without Ben’s contributions Syracuse would STILL be in second place in the competition, just a few dollars short of first place. ‘Cuse is ALL IN, way to go!

Now, I am very excited to announce for the first time this campaign, The Top 5 Mustaches of the Week! Please keep in mind that these award winners are listed in no particular order, and selected for FUN!

  1. “Last lax session before hurricane Sandy hits”. At first I wasn’t sure if this stache was real or fake but after some careful inspection I have come to determine that this is by far the best real mustache submitted so far in the Stache Gallery.
  2. “This is the best I can do”. The best you can do is always good enough for us. Leading the way as our first and only female to submit a pic so far this year. Ladies, don’t forget to flash the stache!
  3. “Thinking man pose looks so much better with facial hair and new King IV gloves”. Bringing a classic pose to LMM from the left coast. Doesn’t get much classier than UCLA Team King IV gloves!
  4. “Denver Elite boys for the cause”. Who would want to mess with this group? The intense stare down made the hairs on my upper lip stand straight!
  5. “Team Mustache Lou”. By far the pic that made me laugh the most. Do yourself a favor and make sure you check this out. Not sure what’s funnier than a baby with a stache!

There you have it, our Top 5 Mustaches of the Week! Please remember that to become eligible you must submit your mad stache photos to our Stache Gallery on our homepage.

Stay tuned for some more great LMM items that will become available in addition to the very awesome assortment gear that is currently available. I for one cannot wait to get my LMM 2012 Edition Shorts!

As always, it is never too late to sign up. Continue to get more teammates and friends to register and continue to reach out for donations. We are well on our way to $100,000!!!

Lacrosse Mustache Madness: Week 1 Update

Just 6 days into the fourth annual Lacrosse Mustache Madness campaign and over $13,500 has been raised so far! Syracuse University sits in first place with nearly $3,000 raised and Hamilton, University of Virginia, Cornell, and Quinnipiac rounding out the top 5 all with totals above $1,000. Ben Kaminow has spearheaded the Syracuse campaign and is once again the individual fundraising leader with over $2,700 raised!!!

With Halloween just on the horizon, please make sure to TAKE pictures of your mustaches, especially in costume, and SUBMIT your photos to our “Stache Gallery” on our website. Next week we will email out a Mustache Template that you can print out and use as an accessory to your Halloween costume. We will begin to choose our Top 5 Mustaches of the Week and winners will be selected based off creativity and style among other things. We also encourage submitting multiple pictures as a means to track your stache growth throughout the campaign!

Be sure to continue recruiting your teammates to register online and participate in the event. We have over 60 teams signed up already but many of these have under 5 fundraisers registered. The more fundraisers signed up, the more money your team will raise, which means your team has a better chance to win some awesome prizes. Keep an eye out for our 2012 Lacrosse Mustache Madness Limited Edition shorts from Lacrosse Wear being released next week. The shorts last year sold out quickly so make sure to order yours ASAP! In addition, we have some great custom LMM heads from Stylin Strings and custom LMM socks from Sock Guy. Get your Lacrosse Mustache Madness gear today!

With November quickly approaching, continue to spread the word and “Flash the Stache”! We are well on our way to reaching our $100,000 goal!!!

Get Growing!
